RIGHT TO ACCESS HEALTHCARE SERVICES !

Author Joseph KAGABO On 2019-04-01 20:48:03 Read 401 Times

Recently, I had an opportunity to meet Staff of Rwanda diabetic association (RDA). I learned about life of diabetic patients, and their contributions to improving health and wellness. They are challenged in accessing healthcare services due to the shortage of healthcare providers, affordability of services, and limited of medical education.

Sadly, I also learned that despite efforts Government of Rwanda is making by reserving some days of weeks for special care to NCDs patients. Still in some parts of rural areas, young chronic patients are deprived from accessing healthcare services by their parents. Parents think “as long as s/he is suffering from chronic disease, no need to spend any money on diseases that could not be cured” Imagine young diabetic patients who do not take any medication or diseases management service. How long does s/he going survives ?

So, we need to reach out those undeserved communities, educate public, and break distance and financial barriers to provide improved access to healthcare services for patients with chronic ailments.
